Our Insurance Acceptance and How it Affects You
Many of our patients have some form of dental insurance in their package deal from their employer. A few have privately acquired their own coverage. Then the remaining persons have no dental insurance benefit at all. We here at Shades Creek Dental want to be able to help all of our patients, no matter which column they fall under.Unlike medical insurance coverage and its broad span of procedures, dental insurance is more of a limited supplemental benefit, with a maximum of $750 to $2000, depending on the company issuing it and the policy that has been purchased. There can be some confusion about each persons’ plan, but we will do our best to help you maximize your benefit, without compromising our quality of dental care for you.Let’s talk about the history of dental insurance, and its lack of growth to keep up with the cost of living. With it’s inception in 1954, dental insurance had a maximum allowance of $1,000 per year ,and covered 100% of preventative care (cleaning, exams, xrays), 80% of minor dental work (fillings, extractions), and 50% of major work (root canals, oral surgeries, crowns, onlays/inlays, dentures, partials). If this sounds familiar, it is because most dental insurance coverage is exactly the same today as it was over 60 years ago when Eisenhower was in office! Had dental benefit coverage kept up with the rates of inflation, the average annual maximums today would be close to $10,000. Can you imagine what that kind of coverage would mean for your oral health? Well, these benefits haven’t grown, and there is no indication that it will increase at any time in the future. Because of this, we want to give our patients the best possible support when it comes to receiving the treatment needed to maintain their overall healthy life. So, do we take your insurance? The answer is, maybe, but don’t let that be the only reason you choose a dental office. We will work with your insurance provider and partner it with one of the many options we have in-office to grant you the best dental care that you require without compromising the quality of dentistry we perform. Simply having dental insurance will not guarantee complete coverage for the services you need to repair damaged or decayed teeth. They will cover what they see as minimally necessary to meet their policy of revenue and profit, which usually isn’t the best final result for the patient’s needs. If we are out of your network and you want to experience the Shades Creek Dental difference, we will honor your insurance’s listed fees for the exam, cleaning, and x-rays if you mention this blog post!We will file all dental claims for our patients, even if we are not a Preferred Provider for that company. We will attach the necessary x-rays, intra-oral pictures, and narrations needed for your provider to evaluate and make their decision on their allowed coverage for you. We are here to make sure your mouth, and all the soft tissues attached to it, are health, strong, and comfortable while you enjoy eating and smiling. At Shades Creek Dental we offer the highest quality of care, and will not decrease that quality to conform to insurance providers’ minimal limits. While we can process and submit claims with all insurance companies, we are only in-network with BCBS and Southland. By law, insurance companies cannot refuse claims from a non-participating dentist; however, they can choose to reduce the amount of benefit paid to you. However, even if you do not have insurance, we still work to make sure you have an affordable dentist by providing you with different options for payment. Our payment options include:
- 10% Savings when treatment is paid in full (cash or check) at time of service (8% for card transactions)
- ½ Down at time of service, with 3 equal monthly payments for the remaining balance
- 12 month interest free payment through Care Credit (longer plans can be arranged with low interest payments)
- Dental Assistance Savings Plan (DASP) is an in-office plan for our patients that have no outside insurance options.
